About The MLK Illustration:
I’ve always admired the work of Shepard Fairey and thought that this project would be a great chance to explore some of the styles he utilizes in his work. First, I found a good image of Martin Luther King jr, then I used the pen tool to break the image down into distinct shapes. Like Shepard’s Hope Poster, I used blue, red and white as my colors. I also used some of the midtone shapes as clipping masks for diagonal lines, which minimized the colors and created a midtone out of blue or red. I plan on exploring Shepard’s style more in the future by using patterns as a midtones, rather than just diagonal lines.
