art & high school branding // visual identity

Redesign & visual identity design for the high school complex. Taking into account the school situation and needs - redesigning the logos, printed promotional materials, website templates and designing additional projects for various events for a consistent school brand.

I was a graphic design course teacher in art high school / college for few years, it was a chosen specialty studio and I was responsible for teaching the classes & preparing students for a final diploma project at the end of three year course.

My additional task was to make new graphics for school's website as well as prints for an open day event. At first I just experimented with shapes & including student's works to make eye catching promotional posters for two art schools as that was the most pressing issue at the time:

The visual identity of the school at that point was not consistent & depending on the availability of different people who were making graphic materials that were needed at hand. So when approaching the initial task mentioned above & doing some research I decided to later on redesign the two existing logos & design one for new art school (one for younger teens).

I've presented the new designs - they are using the well known school symbols from the old logos - yet they are simplified & consistent:

Also building up on previous posters - I've proposed a shape & colour coding system to distinct the different schools within the complex. Two main schools in the building are High School and Art High School, represented by blue and red.

Third school due to education reform was meant to be closed in few years, after current students graduate - its colour is green in logo as at it was still relevant to distinct them for time being. Although in some designs both art schools are in red as it was more suitable decision for the specific projects.

The logo and colours spread through the schools and were used in promotional designs by me or by other teachers to brand their events or art studios - to create school's products. It all helped to create more consistent & recognisable brand for the high school complex resulting in popularity among candidates.

The website was redesigned to include subpages for each school and coded with corresponding colour scheme and graphics.

A set of posters designed for an open days, held every year in March to attract possible candidates for each school. There is a poster that represents the specific school & one with all the details about the event in the high school complex. I've also redesigned the folder with school's educational offer - so it's fitting with the promotional materials.

The school building's two staircases have to be protected to meet the regulations, so as two schools were embracing the visual identity - the headquarters decided to use that space for the metal plates with logos. There are few lounge spaces for students on different levels and one of them is full of poufs in signature two colours:

Some of the events organised in the city or in the school & promotional materials for them used the colour scheme in their design. Those presented below were designed by me, but other teachers also used the new principles when making materials / decorations for workshops and events.

Art school teacher's collective exhibition took place in the town's Museum gallery. It was a fun gathering & successful event, I've designed the promotional materials using shapes known from school's identity in more experimental way & only red colour as dominant as it was the art school's event. As most of the teachers are practicing painters, printmakers, photographers and sculptors - it was varied show, for my part I've prepared a poster with a graphic collage of my various projects.

Following year I've used this colour scheme for a poster + invite for printmaking students gallery show. They also had to follow gallery guidelines, but allowed for a layout that corresponds to the school's visual identity.

Along the way I've also developed set of icons for representing different categories for school's own award for exceptional students in specific fields: science, literature, arts, sports, etc. At this point the blue and red colour scheme was established, as well as a tree & leaves as a symbol related to the school & the sharp lines / shapes - all elements that made it more cohesive.

The set of posters for each school's 2019 recruitment events that I've designed had to include two versions of a poster for each school - as they were aimed at different age groups due to the education reform and incoming students graduating still from old path & already from the new one that year.

Black and grey were chosen for this distinction & focus on round and square shapes in the layout to set two types of school apart. The photographs were from a photoshoot by Agnieszka Kawa, photography teacher and following folder was designed by Monika Mrosek, design teacher.

Logo spread on its own & would be used throughout the school year by other teachers with their students in different art studios - as part of event preparation, school promotion projects or just for fun & it was always awesome to observe that.

I'm including few photos of the logo used in Marta Lach sculpture studio to make clay magnets, as a stamp for cookie gift boxes, as part of an event decoration or as drawing on a teacher's mug:

The logos and graphics were also projected during official school events like graduation - making a statement which part is dedicated to art school or high school graduates - and also which one is an impromptu joint music performance by a group formed of students from both schools:

Time working as a teacher was full of challenges & very rewarding as well, it was a pleasure to work with the fellow teachers, artists & supervisors too - Małgorzata Bednarczuk, Marta Lach, Marek Pośpiech, Artur Janasik, Monika Kołodziej-Mrosek, Agnieszka Kawa, Katarzyna Wieczorek, Grzegorz Mitręga, principles: Renata Szymanek, Karina Irczyk & Wojciech Komorek, that list is longer too with other friendly teachers & staff. As part of the art teachers group - it was fun to work within a like minded team, day to day & when supervising trips or doing projects together.

And of course same case with all the students there! I was proud to be a supervisor for diploma showcase for two groups of graphic design course students in following years - with interesting projects & talented young designers. Being by their side as part of their classes, trips & while they were discovering their own interests, working on their skills & pursuing diploma projects meaningful for them - was an awesome thing & I hope for the best for all of them.

And I'm happy I had my part in shaping the school's visual representation as well!
Thank you all & thank you for viewing! <3
