Marken - is a tiny island that takes around 20 minutes to reach by boat from Volendam. the beauty of the place is the wooden houses and most of them are built on stilts to avoid the flooding in high tide. the population of the island is around 2000 people. 

the first thing we did after reaching Marken was visit the local pub and we feasted on food and local beer. one of them was " Paix Dieu" which had over 12% alcohol. i had about 2 of them and was feeling really happy :) 

spent about an hour just walking around and we decided to catch a local bus that took us to another town called Monnickendam
