by Beatrice Warde, “The Crystal Goblet”.

The Essay was written in 1953 where digital printing was still not available, therefore, every printed publication was hand-set using letterpress. Knowing the limitation in technology in the 1950’s, Beatrice Warde, a type critique, set out a concept of theories, referring to good book typography which were meant metaphorically as three different types of glasses.
