A little hike to Forno Glacier
Photography and climbing in the Bregaglia Valley

The day started with a beautiful drive up to the Malojapass, where we parked. We started our hike towards Fornohütte CAS at nine in the morning. First stop at Lagh da Cavloc for a second breakfast and then straight up to the Muretto pass. The route we chose is not the classic one for the Forno Glacier, instead it is a panoramic detour. The path lead us just below the Muretto pass, then it continued around Pizzi dei Rossi (3027 m) crossing the alpine lakes below this peak. After three hours of hiking we reached Laghetto del Forno, still covered by ice and then the mountain hut.
After a well cooked dinner we hiked along the ridge scouting the area for some sunset photography. The main subject was, obliviously, the glacier at the hut. Sadly the light never happened and a bunch of clouds covered the horizon blocking the sun.
The next morning the light was a little bit better. We got some high clouds at blue hour catching some reflected light but as the sun got higher they dissipated leaving a clear sky. We explored some more finding a little lake just 10 minutes away from the hut.
After sunrise we had some coffe and a fast breakfast and then we hiked towards Monte del Forno (3214 m). We reached the ridge at the border between Italy, Val Malenco, and Switzerland, Val del Forno. As we moved upwards we found some snowfield that slowed us. Clouds started moving in covering the landscape around us as we approached the climb. At the peak the Italian side was all in mist but the view was clear on the Swiss one. On hour way down we found some rock goat wondering around the path. It was such an amazing encounter.
