A Level Art: Isolation

A Level Art: Isolation
I created silhouettes of an isolated figure on windows. The dark materials (ash and dried glue and ink) suggest to physical isolation leading to mental isolation, portraying loneliness and deteriorating mental health. The colourful materials (buttons and artificial flowers) suggest to physical isolation being a beneficial factor to mental health and its importance in keeping people sane. These two effects of physical isolation completely contrast one another, which is why they are on either side of the windows, and why they cannot be seen from the opposing side.
When experimenting, I used a variety materials such as spray paint, thick paint, soot, dried glue and ink and wax to see how they complement and appear alongside the transparency of the window.
Painting inspired by Christina Troufa, who physically / visually isolates parts of the human figure in order to draw emphasis on the most stripped back version of the human form, disregarding anything artificial such as clothes or extra accessories.
