Bachelor Degree Graduation Project: Tribal - Textile Collection
I graduated from Technical University of Lodz in 2017 with a BA degree in textile design. My thesis focused on a niche musical style - tribal, which can be generally characterized as modern world music, as it incorporates traditional sounds from around the globe. Through synesthesia - a feature of the brain allowing a person to interpret stimuli through receptors not naturally connected with that stimuli, eg. hearing colours, seeing sounds - I was able to "translate" chosen musical pieces into visual art. Later, I used these "translated" elements to compose repeat patterns and, eventually, produce jacquard fabrics to be displayed as a part of the graduation work.
Because the focus of this project is on synesthetic experiences, not tribal aesthetic, the designs are much more abstract than the thesis would suggest.
Preserving the authentic, organic style of the elements used to compose the patterns was important to me - that's why it's easy to recognize brush or pencil strokes.
The finished fabrics are made with variety of yarns: poliester, cotton, wool. They're heavy and detailed, can be used as decoration or upholstery.
