orpheus and eurydice
[ a reverse poem book ]
Reverse poetry is poem which can be read from top to bottom or bottom to top and present two different or opposing meanings. Marylin Singer's poem Eurydice and Orpheus from her book Echo Echo tells the two sides of the famous Greek legend.
An accordion book with hard covers and a magnetic spine was chosen as the physical form to deliver this contrast between perspectives. Once the reader reads one side, they are able to read the other by taking the spine and placing it on the other side of the book. Through typography and placement, each spread heightens the themes of the story—love, death, fate, emotional distance.
