Illustrations for Book of Folktales: Achet Lokkathaye

A self-initiated project, it involves writing and illustrating the folktales passed down in my family to make it available to the masses. 'Achet Lokkaathaye' means 'lesser known folktales' in Hindi. These are lesser known fables of lazy men, estranged couple of birds, a 'pundit' saved from dire circumstances by his hilarious and often, uncanny ability to correlate and many more colourful characters and situations.
The tale in hand is of a lazy man who christens himself 'Dummad Khan' which literally means 'the killer of two' after killing two mice and his adventurous life, where he is saved by co-incidents working in his favour.
The project endeavours to illustrate the visually rich life of rural India in an uncomplicated and vibrant way. The character design has been kept minimal yet is able to portray the emotions and the situations aptly. The tale is meant as a children's book.
Thank you.
