NAFA x MUJI: "Ginger Village" (2017)

Collaborated with Ditthania, Ayumi and James to design and paint on MUJI’s canisters following the theme “Happy Christmas.” The stacked christmas tree is later displayed at MUJI Plaza Singapura throughout 2017 Christmas season.

Mainly inspired by Japan’s Ogimachi Village in Shirakawa-go (a.k.a “Christmas Village”) and Hachinohe Yatai Mura (Food Stall Village) Miroku Yokocho, we came up with the idea of a sweets village with Gingerbreads as main characters to combine classic Christmas elements and Japanese unique traditions.

The design offers a unique two-ways viewing: the village exterior on one side focuses on the joy and festive decorations of Christmas, while the interior on the other side focuses on the warmth of quality time we spend with our loved ones during Christmas.
This approach is used to emphasize that ‘happiness’ comes in various ways and definitions, and everyone interpreted their ‘happy Christmas’ differently.
