'The Wind in the Willows' Penguin book cover

The week lomg brief was to redesign the book cover for "The Wind in the Willows,' my aim was to create interesting and engaging characters to engage the younger audiene but use a modern style to attract the parents. I started by replicating laser cuttting on photoshop.
Although I liked the image of the Mr Toad's legs dangling over his sinking automobile, I felt that there wasn't enough character in his face and I wanted to capture the charm of the book more.

My next idea shows a naive, slightly ungainly Mr Toad poking his head through a baroque frame which has his friends carved within. The hand written text matches the style of drawing which is not sleek and perfect but is instead rough and playful much like the story itself.
With the final piece, I've reintroduced the laser cut effect, also i chose to use a plain lighly blue background
to ensure the overall effect of the cover is fresh and modern yet fun and quirky.
