YCN Competition 2019 - LEVC

YCN Competition Submission
creating a second life for LEVC's black cabs
This project required me to find an alternative use for old diesel-fuelled London black taxis. This is a result of all taxis being turned 'green' in an effort to reduce carbon emissions in London. First of all, I simplified and grouped all the necessary information in the brief to allow myself to stick to basic guidelines given. This helped with research and ideation techniques.
I first drafted my final ideas before creating them digitally, this allowed me to refine them until I was happy with the outcomes.

I wanted all ideas to reflect LEVC's reason in converting their taxis to electric in the first place - to help combat global warming and raise awareness.
Below was an idea of an awareness campaign for endangered species around the world. I thought this was an important concept as LEVC was making efforts in helping save the environment and could possibly collaborate with other organisations such as WWF to help combat global warming and save species.
Another idea was to convert the taxi bodies into greenhouses that could power things that would otherwise drain energy without needing to. Cars get extremely hot, especially during the summer months, so I thought this was ideal way to create and store energy and help the environment whilst helping light the streets of London.
My final idea for this YCN competition was a sensory experience for children in London who do not have the means necessary to travel and explore places far from home. Reasons being due to illness or financial incapabilities. My idea was to bring the experiences of different environments to them, within these taxis.
This sensory experience would be delivered to them within the taxi bodies and these would be placed all over London, in public spaces and within hospitals and hospices.

The taxi would target as many senses as possible, having a screen for visuals, a kinetic chair introducing movement, scent sprays and speakers producing the sound of the user's chosen destination.

Below is a leaflet designed for parents, guardians and owners of the taxis to learn about the use of the taxis and how all the different experiences can benefit and
educate the children.
Ideas of different environments to explore through the taxi experience. Each could be educational with facts, or just for fun, introducing users to totally different areas of the world. There could be people and animals to meet additionally through these experiences.
I made a mock up of how a taxi set up could look like in a public space, using google Sketchup I added benches, greenery and what the interior of the taxi would look like.
