Heritage Hunt: An RPG For Museums

Heritage Hunt is an android game developed for the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta, Malta as my graduate thesis project for my M.Sc in Digital Games: Design & Analysis.

Heritage Hunt is a multiplayer roleplaying game where two or three players must work together to solve a mystery using clues related to the artefacts on display at the museum. Players each select a different character and receive different clues from various artefacts, and must work together to compare and contrast the information they received to solve the mystery.
At the start of the game the players each select a character. These characters will get different clues from each of the artefacts on display and only by combining everyone's clues will the players definitively find out who robbed the grave.
From there on the players must go around the exhibit and scan the QR codes found there. Each participating artefact will give the players a clue towards the implication or exoneration of one of the four suspect characters. They will also get an entry into the codex that will give some more information about the artefacts and their historical context outside of the fictional narrative.
The Suspects pages show the clues the players have already collected so the players can review them whenever they want. At any time the players can decide to accuse one of the suspects of the crime.
The goal of the game is to have the players walk a mile in the shoes of the Phoenicians, and give them an idea of the way the Phoenicians lived. The game is meant to explore the possibility of using roleplaying to educate museums visitors on the cultural context of the artefacts on display.
