Why Byzantine Art is important to designers?

Die-cutting & Foiling

Many people think about Byzantine Art and remind about the dome-like buildings learned in art history and world history. Many people will imagine a mosaic of colorful colors. Byzantine Art is more deeply in our life than I thought. This had a lot of influence not only on buildings but also on silk fabrics, gold met art works, and workmanship. The mosaic activity of splitting paper is perhaps art activity that I saw many times as a child. In addition, board games were made inspired by this art. “Sagrda” is the most representative board game examples.

Byzantine Art spread around the Constantinople, the present Istanbul, as an art form found in the Eastern Roman Empire and the country under its control. It is a blend of elegant and sophisticated Greek and Roman cultures and the eastern culture. It is an art culture that reigned in Europe during about 1000 years in the 4th to 15th centuries. Especially excellent works such as temple buildings were made. It is representative of mosaics and frescoes. This art is characterized by surface decoration and color.

For this project, I tried to express the infinite possibility of Byzantine art with die-cut technique and foiling.
Also, I designer poster card and Byzantine stained glass magic card for giving it away item.
