Project Description
The Ma’o-hao-hele airport café is a fictional café is located in the Honolulu International Airport. This project was meant to get a better understanding of codes in a commercial building, hand drafting with perspectives, understanding the client, and learning the design process. Since the original project was created, it has been re-rendered in Revit.
Design Concept
The design of the airport cafe was inspired by the Hawaiian culture and landscape. The state flower, a yellow hibiscus, was a main highlight of the color scheme. The countertop is a curvilinear fish tank which mimics the ocean and the shape of the local islands. The wood used within the space is koa wood, which is local to the islands. Décor used are native plants and of course the Ma’o-hao-hele flower (yellow hibiscus in Hawaiian.) Throughout the space, visitors will get a sense of the bright and welcoming Hawaiian culture.
