This is my selection of photos to submit to Falmouth University by way of application to study photography
The flow of eau
The movement of water makes a fascinating subject for photography, always something new to observe. The refraction of light and the effect of other elements always create a changing landscape; rain, wind, light, object, people, animals, etc
The subject matter of this photograph is a a person. The natural light coming in from the top left corner lights up the raindrops that create ripples in the pool. The shot was taken at eye level focused on the person, making the background blurry, further emphasising him as the focal point. The photograph is at the same time bright and sombre. The happy tone comes from the beauty of the environment but is contrasted by the persons movements. Could he be expressing some kind of struggle, or be representing how hard it can be to appreciative of what we already have without getting caught up in what we do not have.

The rock pier helps to direct the point of view towards the rippling water. The ripple and the light create a multitude of colors within the water.
Circles within circles are created by the kids playing in Croatia's turquoise waters.
The movement and the reflection of the dolphin is captured. The water distorts it's reflection making it look abstract. It appears as though the dolphin is jumping into the frame.
Autoportraits with tripod and self timer
These two images are collated together to show how focus guides the audiences perspective. In the first image, one focuses more on the person whereas on the second the eye is directly projected towards the sea. Collating the two images with different focuses allows the audience to appreciate them one after the other.
The streets of Paris
The subject on foreground is blurred to allow the line of the building to lead the eye towards the eiffel tower. In this photo, I was trying to experiment with something I had learnt about called "leading lines" that is a compositional device that helps lead the eye towards the subject.
This photo is taken in Rue Cremieux, one of the most photographed streets of Paris that is known for it's colourful houses. However, I choses not to focus on the houses but on myself using the colors of the houses to subtly add to the blurry background.
This cliché photo of coffee in Paris is lit up by the orange colours that are in focus and balance out by the beige colours out of focus.
This photo was taken at Place du tertre in Montmartre which is a very renowned square for different drawings and paintings. Indeed, this man is drawing a young girl with chalk.
I enjoy capturing other peoples artwork because photography in itself is a form of art and I like the idea of memorialising somebody else's art in your own artistic way. Here I captured the image so that the young girl being drawn is looking straight over the artists shoulder at my lens.
Urban Youth
A collection of portraiture photos with young men as the subject, mostly in an urban setting
Although the subject of the photo is a young man, the eye is drawn to the abstract shapes of the buildings and how they juxtapose with the lines in the sky. We wonder what he is pointing at.
In this portrait I wanted to capture the classic bone structure in his face without distracting features, thus the background is blurred, and he is not smiling.
Intense and natural, a classic expression of today's youth, I was experiementing with the use of black and white in portraiture.
A contrast of dark and light to emphasise the subject of the portrait
I was playing around with aperture settings to create interest and abstraction, the viewer may wonder what the subject is, person or nature?
The lines created by the buildings draw the focus directly to the subject who is centre stage of this portrait
Capturing a joyful moment
The blurred colours of sunset provide a stunning background for this portrait
Once again I was experimenting with sharpness and aperture to create interest and mystery within the portrait. Especially in this case with the lights.
