arriving at this juncture
not realizing until
the moment
the magnitude
of what will transpire

at the crossroads

forced to decide
like a deer pinned down
on a crowded highway
confused to the
point of madness
muscles tensed to bolt
yet nowhere to run

test of faith ensues
invitation to
walk on water
no calming voice
reassures success

storm clouds gather
mocking indecision
sight to behold both
beautiful and terrifying

distant beacon
pierces the sky
casts pale light upon
dark and murky waters

stepping forth gravel-blind
breaking into stride
there is no turning back
once the marathon starts
vista on the
other side
astonishes

like waking up
in an unknown city
not remembering
going to sleep

glance out the window
provides no
visual cue

step outside still
nothing looks the same
traverse a bridge
to mid-point and
gaze at the river

beneath unmoving
perfect calm
clouds and trees
reflected in dreamlike
symmetry

vague recollections of
standing by a lake
daring or not
to cross and
realize there is
no going
back now
