Milton Glaser Editorial

Milton Glaser Editorial

This is a three spread editorial created to feature an influential designer. And Milton Glaser is one of America’s most influential designers. Some might even say he is the quintessential American graphic designer. His work combines conceptual thinking, rich and diverse visual language, and strong inventiveness.

The article traces the path of Milton Glaser’s career as a designer – from his childhood to his beginning as a designer to the international influencer he became. It also features many of the psychedelic-styled and memorable posters he became known for. The article incorporates the bright colors of his posters, particularly from his Bob Dylan poster, which was one of his most well-known works. One can easily find many recreations of this particular poster meant to feature other celebrities and political figures on the Internet.

The bright colors help to convey the high-energy and playfulness of Glaser’s posters throughout the article. The editorial’s opening spread mimics Glaser’s posters by combining things of the “normal world” (a portrait of a famous person) and the bright, otherworldly colors and fantastical elements that were often the visual focus on the posters. The editorial’s design backs off in the following spread in order to allow the reader to focus more on Glaser’s work.
