The Client
The Archdiocese of the Washington, D.C. is part of the Orthodox Church in America, which is the local presence of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established by Jesus Christ and faithfully transmitted through her Scriptures, worship and prayer life, and through the teachings of the Holy Fathers.

The Challenge
The challenge was to remake and digitize the Logo Seal for Archdiocese of Washington DC, Orthodox Church in America to be used on official documents, stationary, etc. and later produced as a metal pinThe only previously existing files were very low resolution and I was tasked to remake and elaborate on the design. I have included below what I had to start with.

The Solution
I retraced over the very low resolution version for reference using Illustrator after doing some minor sharpening in Photoshop. Very careful pen-tooling, anchor-point placement, and handle control where painstakingly used, along with wrapping the individual letters along the path as close as possible. I referenced photographs to get some of the details as true as possible, like in the bell tower, but some details were reduced for what was most practical. The scene shows famous landmarks around Washington DC, including the Orthodox Cathedral and an eagle. There is a video below showing some of the final touches.
