One day, walking around town, my husband and I saw the expression "Relax & Cookie" written somewhere. "If I were a lord in Game of Thrones," said my husband, "those would be the words of my house."
That happened a few weeks before his birthday. I also knew that he needed a big mug at his new office. So I started sketching a coat of arms, while looking up some Latin and some information on heraldry.
The design of the coat of arms is full of little inside jokes, while still more or less following traditional heraldic rules. I designed the other side of the mug inspired by the Game of Thrones style, with a metal effect on the words and stretching the arm of the L.
The most difficult part was finding a vendor that sells jumbo-sized personalised mugs. They were all too small, or conical, or stein-shaped, or the delivery time was too long... It took some truly creative googling to find the mug I wanted.
In the end, my husband was very pleased with his birthday gift, and I'm happy to know that his morning tea brings him a cup of joy each day.
