Eagle Mountain City State of the City Video

Eagle Mountain City is a rapidly growing city in Utah that was only incorporated just over 20 years ago. Our population of about 40,000 has a median age of only 19.2 due to many young families making Eagle Mountain home. We knew that a typical State of the City video would not be well received. We also knew that the State of the City video could only be a few minutes long to ensure residents could watch it all the way through before losing interest. 

We also wanted to make sure that the public knew who the people were at the City, see the faces of those that serve them every day. Our City is a bit of a unicorn in that despite rapid growth, we have a declining cost of government, we don't have general obligation debt, and we have a very small government size for our population. This is because we have great employees who work very hard, often wearing multiple hats. We felt that the successes of the past year should be shared by those that made them come to be.

So we came up with an idea that proved to be very successful. Our card-passing video was seen by over 3,000 of our residents (generally our YouTube videos only get a few hundred views), and all comments and feedback were positive. 

The video was created entirely in Adobe After Effects using masking, blur effects, motion tracking, and more. It was a fun project to complete and it was rewarding to see the comments expressing gratitude for the individual departments and team members who worked so hard.
