Animal Shelter Ad

"If everyone's not a beauty, then nobody is."
-Andy Warhol

Illustration class assignment: Make an illustration for an Advertisement / Ad Campaign using one of these quotes by Andy Warhol:

1. "I never fall apart because I never fall together."
2. "If everyone's not a beauty, then nobody is."
3. "People should fall in love with their eyes closed. Just close your eyes. Don't look."
4. "All I ever really want is sugar."
5. "Everything is more glamorous in bed, even peeling potatoes."
6. "More than anything people just want stars."

I have chosen to use the quote "If everyone's not a beauty, then nobody is." and do an advertisement for the adoption of pets from animal shelters.

I was looking to show that animals in animal shelters are as beautiful as any other animals that you can find at the pet shop and to take away the "illusion" people have that makes them think that buying a pet at the pet shop is somehow very different than adopting one at the animal shelter.

So I decided to sketch up a Pug (Mops), since Pugs are a breed that is often times not considered "beautiful" by a lot of people. I find them beautiful in their own way, like any other dog, and think that some of their personal characteristics make them even more beautiful.

I added watercolor to the sketch and tried to figure out how to incorporate the quote into the illustration. After a couple of sketches, I came up with the composition on the right.
Scanned in - Cleaned up a little bit so I can draw around the illustration
Introducing the font
After doing some research, I found an advertising campaing for Shelter Pets, and I decided to make the ad for them. The organisation is called the Shelter Pet Project.
When I was done with the font I introduced the outline and logo
