This Way Up // Artcrank Denver 2012

ARTCRANK is a show of bicycle-inspired poster artwork that introduces people to talented local artists and sends them home with affordable, original works of art. Every ARTCRANK show features posters created by local artists from the host city. ARTCRANK DEN 2012 featured hand-made, bike-inspired posters created by the 36 of the finest Denver artists and I was invited to design a poster along with my wife Deepti Nair.

I have always wanted to do a poster that is reversible or can be used in more than one way. The idea that an image could convey a different meaning when flipped over or used in another direction or orientation excited me and this poster is a 2 way poster, and can be used in 2 directions.
The two scenes are almost a reflective mirror image with one depicting summer and softer contours, and the other depicting winter and sharper edges. The poster reflects the bike friendly and scenic Denver paths, be it rain, snow or shine..the beauty of Colorado never ceases to amaze and what better way to witness that than on a bike.

Printed at Inklounge Studios, Denver.
Size: 15x20 // Limited edition of 30 posters
Medium : 2 color screen print on Acid free archival quality paper.
Rough sketch for the poster.
The final screen printed poster.
Designed the artwork in Adobe Illustrator CS5.1.
Closeup of the design.
Burning the screen.
Beautiful day in Denver, the screen dries out in a few minutes.
First coat done.
We wanted to give an illusion of a 3 color print and have a gradient fill from neon pink to a darker tone of red. This technique worked pretty well and we were really happy with the results.
Registration for the second color.
Final color done. Closeup.
