SEW: Syria's Empowered Widows

SEW is a collective of Syrian widows, who learn the skills of sewing,
business ownership, and community transformation.
Logo creation concept

To create this logo, I chose a dark-colored veil, for its popularity among muslim widows.
The eyes can be either seen closed to represent the sadness they have experienced; or looking down to represent humbleness; overlooking the needle, the tool that they turned into a weapon to fight the circumstances that life threw at them.
I combined this expressive visual with the needle, connected to the veil, depicting the fact that they make them along with all sorts of fabric-made goods to sell and provide for their families.
Pattern and Color Palette Creation

Inspired by crochet, shape and color psychology, I created a pattern that merge a number of rounded and repetitive shapes:
Blue represents confidence and faith, in a God who gave them the strength and opportunity to provide for their families;
Yellow represents hope and positivity that these ladies chose, to move forward no matter what.
Teal/Turquoise represents uniqueness of their work and the energy they have;
Purple represents creativity and the preciousness of the ladies despite what the world thinks.

Theses colors, together, portray the variety of people and stories that Syrian camps hold and the circle
represents the communities built with this initiative.

The combination of these stories create a beautiful pattern, showcasing the beauty that God creates out of ashes. (Isaiah 61:3)
