3D Modelling & Rendering : Miscellaneous Projects

A selection of 3D projects both professional and personal. All projects are modelled in 3D Studio Max and rendered using V-ray.
Tranquil House
I re-created the interior of this Tranquil House by Kouichi Kimura Architects using Cinema 4D and Corona renderer as a test of its capabilities. The final render and clay model can be seen below.
MUUTO ROOM
I wanted to recreate a scene discovered on Muuto's website showcasing a number of their products, I modelled and textured all of the products from scratch in order to populate the scene with fully detailed models, I changed around some of the dressing in the scene but in the end the representation was fairly accurate to the original.
MADE FURNITURE MODELS
A selection of soft furnishings from MADE.com modelled for a project.
CLAUDE SAOS JUMP LIGHT
3D Modelling and Rendering of Claude Saos' Jump Light. Original design here.
KITCHEN SPACE
Simple and clean render of a kitchen space with island, this was based on and modelled from a reference photo using 3DSMax and rendered with Vray.
Wire-frame of model, Another view of the model from the 3D file and the original reference image the model was based upon shown below for comparison.
ICE CREAM TUBS
Renders of branded ice cream tubs done for a client.
Scaramouche & Fandango Product Renders
3D visualisation of new products for Scaramouche & Fandango showcasing the new range of products and packaging. I high level of realism was required to properly showcase the new products.
AB CHAIR
Personal project to design a chair using formed plywood and folded metal. After coming up with a selection of initial ideas I decided on one that I was happy with and developed it to create the final design below.

The design is intentionally simple and focuses on the contrasting aesthetics and physical properties of the bold coloured metal seat and backrest and the formed ply wood frame to create simple details.

The design allows for many different colour combinations and is fairly straightforward to mass produce.
FREDERICK ARMCHAIR
Modelling, texturing and lighting work on the Frederik Armchair.
Black & White Coffee Tables
Coffee table concept that is simple but stylish, the design focuses on the contrasting properties of the wood and the glass, and the combination of uneven surface textures and natural earth colours against the smooth hard and crisp finish of the glass.

The table consists of 3 identical wooden legs, a circular wooden table top, a reverse decorated circular glass top (toughened) and a reinforcing bracket to hold the legs in place. The underside of the glass top is painted with either white or black to create the desired colour finish.

The design allows for many different colour combinations simply by changing the wood veneer and the colour on the underside of the glass.
PORTAL TURRET
A personal project where I wanted to have a go at creating something from a video game in 3DSmax, I chose to create the much loved turret from the game portal.

I found loads of reference images online and set about making a basic drawing of all sides as a modelling guide.  I used planes, surface modelling, shell, turbo smooth and symmetry in 3DSmax to create the basic shape according to my guide. Some of the internal components I made up as I couldn't find reference images. I then created a basic portal test chamber with a couple of elements from the game to add character. I then rendered the turret and did some post work in PS.

FLAT PACK LAMP
Flat pack lamp concept that has been designed so that all the components are to be cut out of a single sheet of plywood. The basis behind this concept is similar to IKEA furniture and air fix models, the lamp would arrive flat packed in a small box with just the air-fix style sheet of ply and a bag of components. The customer would then be able to construct the lamp using just basic tools.

As the lamp can be cut out of a single sheet using a laser cutter, the lamp can be made of almost any rigid material, wood, metal or plastic, thus allowing for many different variants.
INSTAGRAM PHOTO FRAMES
Personal project which is a conceptual design project for Instagram. As Instagram is a currently an online only experience I wanted to design a way to make this experience entirely more physical so that you could view your Instagram photos in a more traditional way. The Instagram frame is a small digital frame which connects to your Instagram account via wi-fi and displays either your feed, your photos or your favourite photos on a continuous loop.

These could be used individually or paired with others to create a more physical constantly updating photo frame display. Like a traditional picture frame the Instagram frame can be stood on a desk or a shelf, laid flat or hung on a wall with a hook.
JILL AND BEANIE - URBAN DECAY SCENE
Another personal project, I wanted to make a urban decay scene that I could use to render products in. I set about making a few maps by compositing stock images together to create the wall and the floor scene. I then modeled some furniture items, the Jill chair and the Beanie foot rest to populate and test the scene. I did a fairly basic render of this and then did some post work in Photoshop to create the finished result. I wanted to keep a very monochrome palette with the modern furniture items contrasting the decaying scene behind.
FENDER TELECASTER & MARSHALL AMP
Fender telecaster and Marshall JCM900 amp modeled in solidworks, rendered using 3DMax and Vray and finished with Photoshop.
ORGANIC CHAIR & FOOTSTOOL
Rendering of an organic seat and accompanying footstool design made of plywood layers bonded together and then shaped. Object modelled in 3DS Max and rendered with Vray. NOTE - Designer unknown
COEN LAMP
A simple 3D render of a Coen lamp by designers Boettcher & Henssler. Experimenting with light reflections on annodised aluminum.
