Our Carbon Footprint

The infographic was done in Illustrator. For the colour scheme I wanted to have something light and subtle so I've used these 5 colours which I picked from adobe's library. Furthermore, I used the geometric sans-serif 'Agency FB' font for the headings as it makes them stand out very well and shows a dominant reaffirming look (and it also was intended for titles and headings by the creators). As for the body text I used 'Georgia' because it's recognizable and it's a serif font and that makes it easily readable.
For the composition, I wanted to have separate sections for each title (Water, Air, Wildlife, Climate) but yet wanted them to be coexisting so that's why they all have distinct traits but also repeating elements (such as the 'What can you do' part).
About the green-to-brown circles under the main title I wanted to portray what our carbon footprint looked like years ago - light green(which is how it should be) and the way it looks like now - brownish(like the colour of the air in a lot of industrialized cities).
Some unused working files. I had made all of these beforehand in case they come in handy for future work and a lot of them did.
P.S. most of these were made only with the line and arc tool as I hadn't used the pen tool when I started making them.

I eventually exported the file to a PDF and had it printed. It actually turned out pretty good so I thought I could spread the message. Therefore, I decided to go in the centre of my city and find a place to put it so people could at least just see the title 'Our Carbon Footprint'. So without having to read the whole poster that's something that could eventually stay in their head after they pass by it and could maybe make them think about it or search it on their phones and find more information. If at least one person did that, then I'd know it wasn't all for nothing. One person is enough to make a change!
I had two of my friends helping me with the camera and putting the poster on the wall(using Velcro). It was pretty cold and windy that day so we decided to go to the subway and put it down there as there were many people passing by.
Who was I inspired by?
I recently found videos of Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old climate activist from Sweden with an Asperger's syndrome. She has made so many changes around the world just by being true to her cause and believing in herself. She talks about the critical state of our planet and how our 'leaders' and the media around the globe are not making headlines with issues that will surely come true in the future like water scarcity, wildlife extinction, hazardous air quality and global warming. Her way to get people's attention was by not going to school and staying out in all kinds of weather with a poster that was saying 'School strike for climate' - because who needs school when you won't be having a future?
She is now being invited to all sorts of global events such as the United Nations climate conferences and has also made a speech for 'Ted Talk'. I think she is a true hero.
