Draping/Muslin/Garments

Apparel I: My first Draping/Patterning class we had to create a dress that emphasized or de-emphasized two aspects of the body. I was inspired by the Burma tribe in Laos who coiled/stretched their necks. I also am really inspired by textiles and decided to paint on the fabric (upholstery fabric). I created flower/petal like shapes that would go around the stomach to emphasize the stomach of hungry children. The color combination is representative of the brightness of tribal paints (white and neon yellow) combined with a deep maroon lining and for the petals which also include painting in the inside.

Apparel II: We had to drape and line a coat and a pair of paints as well as work with creating a knit top. For my coat I wanted to combine the East and the West. Before studying abroad in Hong Kong, I had been looking at Chinese roofs and architecture which is clearly illustrated in the double collar of the coat. I wanted to create a version of an up-dated trench (back detail) with a sort of vintage military style.
