Timber Pavilion

The exhibition pavilion concept developed from creating the illusion of a curved timber beams using only straight elements, this type of illusion used is called enveloping. The main feature of the pavilion is the roof structure as looking straight towards the concept the roof structure looks like it curves downward towards the floor in the center from either side of the concept. When analyzing the roof structure closer the curved feature actually consists of straight elements.
The pavilion has been designed to look like it has been lightly placed on the ground this is why the sides lift up and there is a height of 150mm allowing anyone to see underneath it to the other side, it gives the structure the illusion that it is floating. This also means the only the posts are connected to the ground below so the rest of the timber is less likely to rot and get damaged. The pavilion should become a part of the rose garden with the information boards.
This was done by leaving the whole structure completely open with the addition of cladding. The information boards are placed on the deck of the raised sides to allow it to still be open. The pavilion was designed with standard South African pine square beams.
