Caslon Typographic Posters

The Process
The goal of this project was to create posters that highlighted characters that are unique to the chosen typeface. The characters must maintain their true form not be altered. After being assigned the Caslon Typeface, I began the project by researching its origin and creating a strategy to move forward. This included picking out unique characters that can stand out in a crowd.
The first thumbnails were drawn by hand on grid paper in proportion to an 11x17 poster paper. After critique, I narrowed down the designs and the refined sketches were drawn by hand at a larger scale. Images were scanned with Adobe Capture to get a cleaner view of the sketches.
I recreated the sketches using Adobe Illustrator to further refine the designs. I also made type studies to include more information on the typeface such as the name of the designer, the year it was created, and its catchphrase.
While testing out different color swatches I kept two things in mind. It's origin: Britain, 1700's, and its usage: body text in newspapers. I used Adobe Color to build these swatches.
