Process description
To reflect the theme of ‘KunPeng’ is from ancient Chinese legends, I decided to use Oracle bone script. In the beginning, I wanted to use sapphire and fluoro pink as the background but using deep colors for the characters will make them hard to read, also it would be difficult to show Oracle’s special and complex lines of text. Therefore, I changed to snow white as the background and added light blue as the ripple of water under ‘Kun’ and fluoro pink as the morning glow on the top of ‘Peng’.
Important contexts
Oracle bone script is not the way I am familiar with writing, it is far from modern Chinese simplified and traditional characters. Thus, I found many photographs and records, hoping to show their unique way of writing. Oracle bone script has almost no straight lines when writing, and it is composed of very curved and soft lines. They are all pictographs and mimic real objects.
