Project 1: Solid/ Void
Material: Plaster
In the early stage of understanding the concept of solid and void, I drew diagrams from Russian Constructivist Artist El Lissitzky's drawings.
By creating different diagrams again and again, I grabbed some geometric concepts and made my early study model. But I was then aware that some sides were too plain. My new study model fixed the problem I observed in my first model. Also, I tilted one of the columns to creat an interesting detail.
To pour plaster, I broke my model down and tried to analyze its negative space.
Project 2: Sheared Shapes
Material: Metal Sheet
Before I designed my sheard shape model, I studied both the seam and the net of cube and tetrahedrom, which gave me better understanding in the design process.
By creating the net of my study model, I was able to figure out my making process and what seams should I use.
Project 3: Techtonic Cube
Material: Wood
I started my design by making a small cube that only had detail on surfaces, but nothing in the interior space. This helped me to come up with more ideas.
