Art 235 PSA Project  Hunger Arlington Facts
The apartment door swung open, the apartment was filled with kids, eager to watch what I was doing, as I hung a wreath on the door.  The mother asked,  "don't you want me to wash the door?" No, handprints and dirt, show that this is a home where kids are cherished and are free to play. They are loved and watched over, that is exactly what this project is about.

So this project we were asked to create a Public Service Poster, in an instant, I knew mine would need to deal with the Food Bank for Arlington. A friend had asked that I start creating a social media identity for our local food bank, as during her Master Thesis, she looked at simple things the food bank could do to get more funds and bring awareness to our community.

The facts for these posters come from NW Harvest Hunger Facts 2017. Northwest Harvest is a Co-ordinator Statewide for Food Banks across Washington State. It was a process to bring thought to local needs and tie those messages to the current time of year.

The wreath in the posters is made up of silverware, noting that not everyone in Washington State will have enough to eat tonight. That makes me sad.  While most of the state has a booming economy, that same booming economy makes housing expensive, especially for those who are trying to rent a home. There has also been a large influx of drug use and homelessness in our area, both also bring an increase in the need for food and nutrition.

One of my favorite parts about this project, is that it made me get out of the house, and talk to people, interesting conversations start with..."what color is your front door?"
The reality of life is that most of us are just one day away from needing to go to the Food Bank or ask for assistance to help our family. Tragedy can strike at any time and in many ways. We need to support those agencies who step in and give a helping hand in times of need.

The different doors reflect that while each of us is unique each of us have the same basic needs, those of food and comfort. On purpose, I kept the handles, that will let us enter the door, or help out the person on the other side.  While each of us, has our own door, we all can work to help the next door, "Knock Out Hunger."
