Geometry & Form (NID)

Foundation 5
Semester 1

The Foundation Module at NID is one of the first major courses that all students have to go through. The function of the course is acquaint students with important skills that designers need to have such as visual language and comfort with sketching. It also acquaints students with an understanding of perceptive drawing, isometrics, color, geometry and form.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Geometry 1
This module was primarily concerned with creating an understanding of three dimensional geometric forms.

We stared with the platonic solids.
We then proceeded to embed the solids within the solids to understand the ratios between them.
Then we explored other more complex polyhedra.
Lastly, were then asked to select two platonic solids and then divide them into equal shapes that could be assembled like a puzzle, back into the original shape.
Geometry 2
This exercise was to try and duplicate two dimensional geometric forms we found on the internet with the ability to change its shape on manipulation.
Form 1
The first part of this new module involved working with polystyrene blocks to sand them down into forms that would suggest their usage. The usages we were supposed to create were to "hear, speak and play".
Form 2
The second part of the module was to try and use only paper to recreate the form of an animal and to try and replicate its motion if possible. I attempted to recreate the jellyfish, but had to cheat a little by using wires for my second try.
