Author-book by the photographer Lena Jakubčáková SPIS 44 is a collection of photographs from Slovak prisons created during a nearly three-year project (2007–2010). The original title of the project „V odlúčení“ (In seclusions) is a testimony to the life of prisoners and it perfectly describes not only the atmosphere of the book but also the author’s sensitive take on the topic. The binding, cover, and typography of the book evoke a prison file. The minimalist design and blue cloth used on the cover refer to the colour of prison uniforms. The title sheet conceals a sealed message with convicts’ deliberations on freedom. The book also includes prints of stamps which the prisoners made themselves. The launch of the publication took place in Ústav na výkon väzby in Košice with the participation of the photographed prisoners.

The publication SPIS 44 was exhibited at 28th International Biennial of Graphic Design Brno 2018 and was awarded with the 1st award in the profesional design category of the National prize for design 2018 – Comunication design in Slovakia.
