Final Project: Artist Book
The Message is a illness that kills humans that listen to it. This Booklet really focused on how humans are effected by The Message. This booklet can be read in any direction where the white(or black depending on what side your on) represents healthy humans. Following the string, you can see the change in the hexagons. To give some foreshadowing I placed the opposite color hexagon on the covers to show the beginning of The Message. To give it an alien feel, I used a space background and a sliver marker to make outlines of hexagons that don't match the human hexagons. Through out the whole piece there is repetition of hexagons in each panel, even the cut outs are hexagons. In the middle I made sure that each side had a space background and that the hexagons went from black, colored, to white hexagons. The rhythm comes from the repetition of dark hexagons trickling into white hexagons and then back again on the other side. Over all, this is a fun and vibrant book to look at.
Assignment 4: Texture Transitions
These two textured pieces are both mostly organic.
1.The top one goes from front to back using three textures to show how The Message changes our cells. The first and seemingly invisible one is a purple binder that shows organization and perfect repetition of circles. The next texture is of a pink lacy shirt that is somewhat organized and is slightly ruffled that is starting to change. The final texture in that piece is a green bathroom sponge that is ruffled and unorganized to show a change in cells.
2. The second piece is from left to right using four textures. On the left, to show that a disease is effecting people, dragging them in, I used two different pink flower textures. These textures look disease like and very vibrant compared to the other textures. To show some movement, I used a dolls green dress and a necklace chain to make it seem like they're being pulled in by the disease. The green fabric of the dress represents us and the chain represents that we can't escape The Message and have no choice but to look towards it for a cure.
Assignment 3: Tiled Composition
This piece is a representation of how The Message is slowly killing off people. To show healthy cells I decided to use a strong black and make it organized at the left. As little white hexagons wedge in between, unnoticed at first, they effect the order of the black healthy ones, turning them grey and into lopsided shapes.
Assignment 2: Loop Pattern
This design is from the sixth episode of The Message were the sound doctor is learning about the strange phenomena that happens when people hear The Message. The piece represents when the doctor kept her cool while the other scientists panicked as one of them showed symptoms of the disease.
Assignment 1: Coded Rhythm
This was a fun sketch to show what Processing can do.
