This was a wonderful MFA project for a Book Design class I took at the Academy of Art University.

The 100+ page book is about Parkinson's Disease and the grid I developed illustrated some of the symptoms. For instance, this disease begins to show on one side of the body, slowly moving to the other, which is evident on the left-hand pages. If you pay close attention, the genetic code starting on the left side of the spreads slowly move onto the right-hand page of the chapter openers. Also, Parkinsonians eventually develop a curvature of the spine, which is evident on the right-hand pages. Notice some of the more interesting layouts using the curve on the right page, juxtaposed with the angle of the left page. The cover of this book is made up of the human genetic code, however, there are some gaps, but like in our understanding of the code. Also, notice how there is a hint to the grid of the book on front and back covers.
