As part of my A-Level coursework I was challenged to replicate some of my primary photos. This project thread shows my replication of a TAG CARRERA from initial sketch to finished Adobe Photoshop replication. I chose to only replicate the face of the watch as this was the most detailed and I felt with the time pressures I faced, the face would test my abilities the most.
After many hours, 993 layers and 74 folders, I finished my TAG Heuer Carrera replica. This replication was completed entirely through Adobe Photoshop although, a basic fine line drawing was used for proportions. The replica used a wide variety of tools in its production all providing their own function and being suitable for certain aspects. The tools I used most were the standard blur, Motion blur, Gaussian blur, Box blur, Burn, Dodge and Brush. I also commonly used the opacity, fill and transform adjustments however these aren’t seen as tools. I began by creating the larger aspects on the face working out from the middle. Aspects which I found hard in the replication were the hands, particularly creating the layering and depth between each hand. As a shape, they were very simple to create, the complexity was introduced when I found the reflections and tones on the stem to which the hands veer from. From creating this graphic I’ve learnt lots about creating reflections and how to manipulate a very basic shape. This is something I can take forward to anything I create in the future and something I can use to improve others work. Along with this I now understand the importance of folders, without them 993 layers would be very long winded to manage even with names.
