Once upon a time...
The Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen once wrote a poem
called “I am Scandinavian”.
After describing the beautiful landscapes and the people living in
Sweden,
Norway and Denmark, his conclusion is that the Scandinavian
people forever must stand together.
That made me think: What values do the Scandinavians share?
Could they be integrated in a lightning design?
Well, I tried. Meet Sweet Poetry
Scandinavians - What makes us so special?
Few people separated by borders are as alike as the Scandinavians.
Our languages, looks and personalities all share a lot of points.
Chosen examples could be:
- Love of nature and natural materials
- A bit restrained among people we don’t know
- Appreciate every kind of friends and family
- Enjoy aesthetics, art, poetry and design
The Heart of poetry...
When it comes to the shade, this is actually where the personality
is shown. But it is kind of a secret. If you don’t turn the lamp on,
you will never know what it contains.
I found different poems, suitable for this project, most of them
Haiku, but the most simple and describing line was the quote of
Hans Christian Andersen:
“Lad ei den skjønne Enighed forsvinde.”
So I wanted the line to be invisible when the light is out, and visible
when it is turned on. My solution is to write it mirrored on the
inside of the shade. The most effective and authentic way to do
this, is to use black writers ink. I have made different experiments
with ink, and it would be perfect, as it creates a sharp edge between
the shadow(or letter) and the lamp.
