Rocking Chair,
Bent Plywood
This conceptual rocking chair evolved out of the idea of calming, repetitive behaviors. Building the two-part mold itself elicited calming and repetitive behaviors as each of 34 vertical planes were cut and routed. Several sheets of ply were glued and clamped in the mold and left to fully cure before repeating with the next stack of sheets. The two pieces were then further cut, sanded and finished with danish oil. See the reverse evolution of this rocking chair through small scale models all the way back to it's origin as a swing.

Tea Table
Black Limba, Walnut
This table was built using hand tools and traditional hand cut joinery methods. Chisels were sharpened on stone wheels before cutting two mortise and tenons for the front legs, and two 'through tenons' for the back leg. The interior 'leaf' of black limba wood was hand planed before oiling. The walnut's ebony finish was achieved from a homemade stain that uses vinegar and steel wool.
