Selected theme: Emancipation and pain: critical assessments on surveillance and intelligence.
For this piece I wanted to focus on the celebration of culture in Durban. Naturally Durban is a very diverse city with many diverse people, but I decided to showcase one of its cultures to simplify the message even further.

I chose to focus on Zulu women and their contributions to the spreading of culture and beauty that is Durban which is done through social media. I wanted to touch on the positivity that can come out of Durban through the spreading of upliftment and togetherness. All it takes is a shift in mindset that is focused on the weaving together of people and our shared experiences. Even though are cultures are different, we are still one in Durban. We all have a choice to have our culture blind us or open our eyes. I believe that the more we share our stories, the closer we become. This intersection is important for our futures as a city and a country.
