Greed:
The Third Deadly Sin

Building for a project capturing the seven deadly sins, I decided to portray Greed as a music album to reflect the discussions around music piracy and DRM systems that were happening at the time. I decided to use my own photography with a unique technique. By combining light painting and portraiture techniques, I captured the rich, almost luscious, temptation of wealth and prosperity. This was carried through into the typesetting and the choice to use a black as my core color. I wanted the entire booklet and packaging to have a sort of "black velvet" or "black card" type of VIP feel to it, yet stay aloof, leaving the customer dreaming about the after party the band members throw after their album release.
The front cover is meant to instantly grab the attention of browsing customers. And while it looks like it is composed of several images, this is actually a single image taken through an extended exposure and using a light painting technique to create highlights and shadows on the models.
The light painting technique was again used on the CD itself to highlight the models beautiful body and silken dress while being able to precisely control how and where the light illuminates her face.
The photography and luxurious darkness carry through the entire book, with the light painting technique being used to create eerily lit, soft featured models.
The back cover drives home the greed of the band and recording grouping, charging excessively for a short album with more content available through exclusive subscription on their website.
The CD insert also invites the customer to pay even more for online only content through a subscription, while the imagery really evokes the "exclusive after-party" feel of the album packaging
