My principal aim for the UI in this project was to avoid as much as possible the “traditional” 2D UI representations we saw in most DS games. To that effect, we created 3D environments for the menus which gave us the opportunity to use interactive and aesthetic elements in 3D space creating a richer front end experience.
HUD and in-game interactivity proved to be challenging with the touch screen controls. That, however, gave me the chance to use more real estate in the top screen to deliver information more clearly and change visual elements following the game's progression.
