Mermay art challenge 2018

#MERMAY2018

My vision of famous annual Mermay art-challenge.
I added some local folklore to my mermay artworks this year. In my country, Belarus, we don't have common mermaids with fish tails. Our folk tales tell about 'rusalki' - mythological creatures that live in lakes and ponds. They are believed to be spirits of the young girls who drowned theirselves, or kids died unbaptized. 'Rusalki' looks like beautiful women with pale skin, long hair, and sweet voices. They usually appear in the Midsummer night and the week before it. They lure people in water and cereal fields with their beautiful voices, and then tickle them to death. I also drew the 'selkie' - Scottish mythological creature who can change from seal to human.
