A MakerLab is a recent typology emerging from the new found interest in small scale manufacture. The MakerLab operates as a kind of library in which members can use fabrication tools that would be too costly for a single individual. A great idea that is now making inroads to schools and public libraries.
Also, in case you are wondering, the site is an old brewery in Seattle's Georgetown. They have begun knocking down the old building and a large wall of the old brewhouse remains, we were tasked with incorporating this into our designs. I was inspired by the Sandnes Pavilion in Norway (http://www.archdaily.com/110854/lantern-pavilion-awp-atelier-oslo/) and incorporated the wall by sheathing it's exposed end in a glass and timber curtain wall.
