traditional concepts and manipulating them to give a reflection on our own
culture. The cushions act as a message from Denmark poking fun at the UK
from their stance as the “Happiest country in the world”.
I handstitched labels written in handwriting that read ‘Love, Denmark’, this is a
friendly reminder that it comes from a place in their heart to recommend lifestyle
choices. The cushions represent the popular Danish concept of ‘hygge’, its the
idea of embracing comfort during harsh times, and having soft things in hard places.
Crosses and crosses is a board game that pokes fun at Denmark’s national pride, it
humours the idea that there is no way anyone could beat the mighty Denmark
because they are only allowed to play with the Danish flag.
The beer mats link the Danish idea of happiness (Lykke), enjoying a beer or reflecting
on what other Danish customs could improve your work/life balance.
