Nelson Mandela Centenary Illustrations

To celebrate the centenary of Nelson Mandela, a series of 10 illustrations were created to symbolize his 100 year legacy. Each illustration is inspired by a location significant to his life story. These span sites such as Mvezo where he was born, the Old Synagogue where he was tried for treason, Robben Island where he spent 27 years imprisoned, the Union Buildings where he became the first President of a democratic South Africa, Qunu where he was laid to rest and several more.

The modern, colourful illustration style takes its cues from a contemporary South Africa. The patterns visible in the illustrations are inspired by Mandela's flamboyant shirts.
