Barcode - OSLO
Barcode in Bjørvika consists of twelve high-rise buildings with different heights and widths. Between the houses there are uninhabited space strips, so that they resemble a barcode by distance. Barcode houses major leading national and international business entities such as PWC, Deloitte, KLP and DNB. Daily, more than 10,000 people work in Barcode. The buildings also contain 400 apartments and a nursery. On street level there is a varied and attractive selection of restaurants, shops, services and cultural fascilities.

The BARCODE architectural concept was developed and designed by the Norwegian architectural offices DARK and a-lab, in collaboration with the Dutch architectural agency, MVRDV. The BARCODE concept is designed as a geometric system that stands out architecturally. Every other building is dark and bright, with the exception of the building farthest to the east (The Wedge), which has a red brick facade. The concept preserves values such as openness to the fjord, the arrival of light into the city and airiness.Based on the unique architectural concept, each building is designed by various architectural firms. The contrasts between the buildings are large both in shape and materiality, and each building has its own distinctive character. The varied expression and many exciting architectural features make Barcode a city and architecture experience completely out of the ordinary.
