John Paul College, Applied Design Centre

John Paul College, Applied Design Centre,
Project leader, design architect through to building approval.

A graceful shed on an impressively lean budget. The shed incorporated graphics classrooms, workshops for woodworking and metal shop as well as tertiary level technical and design courses of a similar nature for senior students. The school sought for this facility to emulate an office/workplace environment rather than a classroom. The requirements of the building far exceeded the budget under a traditional approach. With the client interested in experimenting, we drafted a non-standard contract and by working closely with the manufacturer from the earliest design phase and engaging in detail with their processes and material, we were able to realise the clients needs with a ruthless efficiency that met budget and design aspirations, winning a State government excellence award for the effective implementation of this process.
