Fairy Flakes Cereal Flat Box

Problem: Many cereals out there try to say they are healthier, but end up not providing key nutrients a growing child needs to be healthy.  They also focus on only targeting a certain group of buyer and soon the store shelves are filled with a singular type of cereal.  Some can have up to 78% more sugar than a normal cold cereal (Group E, n.d.).  The designs of many cereals try to be 'gender inclusive' which is good but are also starting to look alike on the shelves and not garnering enough child attention.

Solution: Create a cereal box that will target a wide range of customer while still having a strict target.  Make sure the cereal is actually healthy but also get a child's attention and makes them want to purchase the cereal.  Also target the parents by making the healthy parts of the cereal noticeable and prominent.  Also make the product homemade and give the parents/consumers information on the company making the cereal and how they got their start.  It should also contain a fun character to grab the attention of the purchasers just like, “A rabbit, a leprechaun and a little giggly guy in a baker's hat walk into a grocery store... Yup. They all did. And a few others. Join the fun behind just some of our many brands,” from the General Mills website in reference to their more famous mascots (Making Food, n.d.).

Results:  The design caters toward a female audience between the ages of 4 and 10.  The unique character and fun colors make the box invite, while relating to children through a popular fantasy character.  The box promises a free fairy wand included inside, this draws children in because it gives the illusion that you are getting something extra with your purchase.  The cute marshmallows in the cereal guarantee a sweeter addition to the otherwise less than exciting cereal.  By making the product gluten free and organic it caters toward the newer and more modern healthy families.  This also makes it accessible to more families in a variety of demographics.  The homemade element of the cereal with information about the owners of the cereal company K&M gives the parents the ability to learn about the cereal and how it came to be.
