ABANDONED PRINTING COMPANY
OCTOBER 2009 - BELGIUM - DEMOLISHED
Amazing to find type characters and complete alphabets, stored in old wooden boxes and archived by their typeface name. The attic contains original print plates and dusty books dating back from 1887. To address the traditional needs of quality, speed and economically production of prepress, the company was in need for a reconstruction. The old building and aged printing facilities were left abandoned and a new modern company did rise on another location.
During the graphic school I have learned the basics in book printing. Including typography in the old-fashioned way using lead letters which were placed piece by piece. A huge time-consuming job that we really can no longer imagine in the digital era.
